Isn’t it funny when the little things can truly make a big difference? Take for example, face cleanser: the ritual, experience, and results can mean different things to different people. For me, it has been traditionally been my least favorite step in my skincare regime, even though a recently washed face is a revitalizing sensation unlike any other. I think that I haven’t enjoyed it as much a I could is due in part to using cleansers in the past that weren’t optimal for my skin, and the feeling that I need to rush through this step to spend more time on the toning, serum, and cream stages.
Two cleansers from Eve Lom have helped me to rethink this mentality, making the act of washing my face feeling more like a luxe indulgence and less of a “have-to.” The first that of two that I tested is the brand’s new Gel Balm Cleanser (pictured, right), an incredibly light formula suited for all skin types with only 1-2 pumps of modest product needed to get the job done. Upon dispensing, it immediately takes you on an aromatic journey thanks to the combo of the brand’s signature blend of clove, eucalyptus, hops, and chamomile oils, and with some gentle massaging on damp skin, you will cleanse and lift any signs of makeup and residue right away. I found this cleanser to be overall pretty unconventional for a gel formula, as it’s amply hydrating thanks to its shea butter and grapeseed oil ingredients. I found this to be the ideal way to start the day, when time is crunched and skin “dewiness” is greatly desired.
Next, I tested the tried and true version, The Cleanser (pictured, left), which has been around for decades and truly elevated my face washing process to all it can be. Besides including the signature blend/aroma, it asks for a few unexpected elements. First, you are requested to apply it to dry skin. Next you dampen a muslin cloth (included with the cleanser) in warm water and apply it three times, for five seconds each, to the face. Last, cool down the cloth and reapply again, applying a cold version in order to shrink/seal your pores. Think you can handle that? I’ve seamlessly incorporated it part of my nighttime routine, which I greatly enjoy and dare I say even…look forward to?
The Eve Lom Cleanser retails for $24-$135, while the Eve Lom Gel Balm Cleanser is $60.
