Thinking back to my high school years, Eastpak backpacks were hardly glamorous, unless of course you were one of those statement-making students who rocked one of the neon-hued or vibrant-printed offerings. Overall, they got the job done… until the weight of hauling textbooks back and forth finally caused the nylon shoulder straps to rip and effectively bite the dust (or locker room floor). While a winter coat is a no-brainer cold-weather staple, I’ve come to notice that a wisely-chosen cozy accessory can actually make a remarkable difference when it comes to staying warm during the coldest time of the year! In recent times, I’ve become a bit of a scarf addict – in fact, I have scarves of all colors, styles, and thickness so I have several that I can rock in any weather – and I can’t help but pick up on all the ultra-comfy knit scarves that have been cropping up this season. Collar scarves in particular have been catching my eye because they somehow look so glamorous yet comfortable at the same time – after all, they’re designed to hug you tight and are the perfect outfit add-on when you feel like bundling up. Think of them as a more extreme version of the infinity scarf, but even more cozy, as they incorporate extra-chunky knits for that looped-and-layered look that will stop at nothing to protect you from catching a chill! I’ll admit that I rarely frequent the GAP nowadays, but the great thing about that store is that I know I can always count on it for all my basic essentials: comfy tees, trusty 1969 jeans, cozy knit sweaters, and affordable menswear-inspired blazers (when I don’t have the energy to dodge the crowds and strewn-about merch at H&M, that is). It’s not my go-to place for a spending spree, but it’s reliable, and on certain shopping trips that can be a real lifesaver. However, when I stumbled across the new soft lace-up oxfords that just hit stores last week, I didn’t have that same underwhelmed-yet-comfortingly-familiar feeling I usually get when browsing their offerings – I was actually intrigued. Maybe it’s the surprisingly chic sueded effect or just my own fascination with the multitude of colors the style comes in, but for some reason I was just convinced that I needed all 5 pairs. After all, if the past three years haven’t made it apparent enough, every girl needs a pair of girly menswear-inspired oxford flats (or several), and considering these are only $50 a pop and come in so many colors to choose from, why not keep collecting?
