After the whirlwind day of shopping at Woodbury Common Premium Outlets, I was invited to stay at The Thayer Hotel, located on West Point’s campus, only twenty minutes from the outlets. As if the sweeping vistas, stellar service, and gorgeous, well-kept rooms weren’t enough, the heritage of the hotel and respect to the 200 year old campus surrounding it has remained perfectly in tact, with modern updates and necessities here and there, kept the place feeling like a luxury outpost, constantly abuzz with warm smiles and activity. The hotel has hosted five U.S. Presidents and is the location of many a wedding reception, as I witnessed wedding attendees coming and going throughout the day.
I stayed in the new Executive Suites wing, while my friend Kristin Booker of Fashion.Style.Beauty.com, stayed in a room dedicated to a U.S. General, whereas the hotel also hosts a Room Dedication Program for individuals to designate a room and become part of the hotel’s ongoing history. My room was beyond gorgeous, with tastefully modern decor and a bathroom that I’d like to duplicate every element of it at home (see picture above).

The outdoor spaces that the hotel offers really were breathtaking; in the late afternoon and later in the evening, I relaxed at ZULU Time Rootop Lounge, the canopied roof deck bar, and for breakfast, I sat out on the porch of the MacArthur’s Restaurant and enjoyed a delicious buffet meal, taking in the unrivaled view of the river and Hudson Highlands mountaintops.
What a tremendous experience; steeped in history, Gothic architecture, and nature, the hustle and bustle of Manhattan felt millions of miles away at The Thayer. You bet I will be back, and if you are in the Hudson River Valley area or looking to plan a trip, keep The Thayer Hotel at the top of your list!

Besides relaxing and shopping, America’s oldest operating winery, Brotherhood Winery, is nearby, along with orchards, antique shops, hiking, river cruises, West Point Golf Course, and more.
