[Zac Posen Resort 2013]
Zac Posen
Walking in to preview Zac Posen Resort 2013, the collection’s fluidity is at once apparent. The designer played with knits and fabrications to reinterpret traditional American couture in an exquisite way for the upcoming season; this reconstructing of fashion was also a perfect moment for model Erin O’Connor to come back to her American fashion career .
Dress making is Posen’s forte, as he incorporates construction through a play on translucent versus opaque. His competence in fabricating figure-flattering dresses is absolutely worth distinguishing. The reds, greens, and purple hues stood out the most for the customer looking to do the same. With the pointelle knit as one source of inspiration, Posen crafted a cabernet-hued dress with open work design that is simply remarkable. Then, a deep violet gown could move women through December, (especially because it has one shoulder physically made to be maneuvered up.) Skirt suits were markedly strong with an impeccable fit, but the gowns just trump all.
Z Spoke by Zac Posen
As for Z Spoke, the designer moved past his 9:00-5:00 collection to do a 5:00-9:00 component as well. A compilation of 10 evening gowns and 10 dresses, this collection speaks to an often under-represented clientele. Resplendent dresses will retail from $590-$800, while gowns will sell closer to $1,000 each (much more affordable than the namesake line). Nonetheless, expect flawless construction and signature Zac details. As for daywear, the outerwear hit all the right notes in brilliant tweeds and wools. The collection is remarkably demure, yet also sexy.
