Quick weekend getaways are part of the summertime fun, and I have a checklist and routine of the items that I generally include, sometimes keeping a pre-packed bag ready to roll for a last-minute trip! Here’s a break down of some reliable summertime go-tos when making a quick escape!
(From left to right): A sturdy bag that can accommodate as much or as little weight as you desire is a must (Liz Claiborne bag); a dress that can work in day and evening and won’t wrinkle is a must (dress by Persifor); a straw hat for the beach or mid-day strolls is important to protect the face and scalp from the sun (hat by Hat Attack); a chic, sleek one-piece bathing suit is easy to wear and pack (Norma Kamali one piece); and shorts with pockets that can be beachwear, workout wear, or sleepwear are extremely helpful (shorts by Puma).

I first mentioned the brand a few weeks ago when I was wearing a gorgeous Persifor dress, and now I have the opportunity to share even more about this unique and innovative brand via a Q&A with the company’s founder, Alexandra Thompson. Definitely one to watch, Persifor features designer collaborations on prints matched with amazingly versatile cuts that you truly have to experience and wear to understand the beauty and functionality of the brand. Read on to enter the world that is Persifor to find out where the name originates from, a hint at next season’s collab, and Thompson’s favorite fashion resource.
Fashion Pulse Daily: Tell us a bit about you, and your previous professional experience; and what propelled you to launch Persifor?
Alexandra Thompson: “I’ve been working in the fashion industry for over 10 years for iconic lifestyle companies like J.Crew and Lilly Pulitzer. During this time, I recognized that the current marketplace was lacking a product that combined sophisticated prints in a versatile fabrication for customers seeking an alternative to more expensive and saturated brands. As my friends will tell you, I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit so launching my own company was just a matter of timing.”
FPD: I love that the brand was inspired by your grandfather’s name (Persifor), who was “known for his casual elegance and unique style;” how does the brand personify these aspects?
AT: “My grandfather didn’t over think his outfits. He wore classic items that were well tailored, traveled easily and could accessorized in any different number of ways. With great ease, he always looked pulled together and stood out in a crowd. Persifor seeks to emulate this concept by creating figure flattering and simple silhouettes that are unique, comfortable and wear well. That’s why it was critical to develop a fabric that would be wrinkle resistant and machine washable.” Continue reading…

I don’t know too many women who get excited over making a fashion statement on a rainy day, unless perhaps she just bought a new Burberry rain coat or Wellingtons and are excited to test them out! With that being said, I was determined to wear my new Persifor dress, courtesy of the brand, on a day when the weather was less than stellar. Paired with an aqua Land’s End cardigan that perfectly picked up on one of the colors in the print, contrasted with a pair of coral and crystal Sorrelli stud earrings, patent leather taupe pumps, my favorite khaki trench, and a smile, the rain wasn’t going to ruin my Sunday!
As dresses are one of Persifor’s signature items, I knew I was getting impeccable fit and quality from the Smitty Dress with Swizzle Sticks in Nantucket Blue. This whimsical, limited edition print is a collab between artist Happy Menocal and Persifor, inspired by the drink stirrers or “swizzle sticks,” from the renowned Swizzle Inn located in Bermuda (and the originator of the first Dark and Stormy). How cute! This dress will be a permanently-packed item when going on vacation to warmer locales, or for when I’m stuck in the city, dreaming of my next vacation.
Made of quality grade nylon (polyamide) and a highly stretchy spandex (elasthane), this dress ensures ease, comfort, and great shape — all elements necessary for multiple wears, as well as to beat the rainy-day fashion blues!
