Our 6 Best Dressed At The Oscars

by fashion pulse contributor

The Oscars, also known as the Academy Awards, are held annually in honor of cinematic excellence. Why not bestow awards for sartorial grandeur as well? We tuned in to choose our best dressed (in random order).

1. Jessica Chastain in McQueen: Jessica looked utterly gorgeous in a black and copper strapless gown of stunning hand embroidery. Her fair complexion and half-up hairstyle were equally as divine, as was the fact that she brought her Nana along for the evening!

2. Rose Byrne in Vivienne Westwood: This midnight blue one-shoulder embellished number was quite the contrast from the much-talked about Elie Saab white jumpsuit Rose recently wore to the SAG Awards. We think she nailed it, yet again, proving that everything we know and love about elegant monochromatic looks reigns true. Did you catch a glimpse of her Chanel fine jewelry as well? To.die.for.

3. Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton: Coral, peplum, cascading ruffles to the floor…this dress is perfection in many ways. We adore Michelle’s choice to to top it all off with dainty jewelry.

4. Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford: Rather amazingly, Gwyneth pulled off a cape on the Red Carpet. Could she have been any more statuesque in this all white structured look? The gown was modern-feminine, and the cape was menswear-distinguished in a way that only she knows how to own. OUR WINNER.

5. Cameron Diaz in Gucci: That peachy color and ever-so-slight sequin detail looked so fun and fresh. The skin tight strapless bodice and floor trailing ruffles really upped the glam factor, all the while maintaining Cameron’s one of a kind dynamic personality.

6. Angelina Jolie in Versace: Once again she looked untouchable in an all-black fantastic gown. The super high slit showed a lot of leg, while the pop of volume at the hips pleasantly surprised us. And that red lip…swoon.

Who do you deem the supreme head turner?

Fall 2012 Fashion Week: Burberry Prorsum

by fashion pulse contributor

Burberry Prorsum: Merging Physical and Digital With a Global Audience

Burberry explored the process of digitalization as it celebrated British fashion with a global audience. Burberry, the inventors of the “Tweetwalk” show, partnered with Twitter to host an animated “Tweetwalk” live from the runway. Prior to models actually strutting the runway, followers were given the opportunity to view the collection from backstage. Smart move, being that Burberry is the most followed luxury brand on Twitter.

As for the Autumn/Winter 2012 womenswear lineup, we saw a plethora of what Burberry does best: coats. Paneled trench coats, cropped tailored bombers, draped blanket front coats, tiered peplum trench coats, cinched riding jackets neatly pulled in with a bow, and down-filled dress coats emerged in gorgeous shades of pebble, khaki, dark racing green, pewter, chartreuse, and burgundy.

The British countryside blossomed through rugby striped tees, draped blanket hem skirts and delicate shoulder bow dresses. Accessories popped with polished metal hardware (check out the gloves!) and tortoise shell detailing to create a look that was essentially refined, yet eclectic.

Fall 2012 Fashion Week: Whitney Eve

by fashion pulse contributor

Whitney Port may have finally proven that she can be taken seriously as a designer, after she presented a collection that felt both vintage and fresh simultaneously. With quintessentially feminine cocktail dresses and heavily embellished shorts (love!), Whitney Eve amped up evening wear in a vibe that felt refreshed and perhaps slightly Cali. The shattered, kaleidoscopic prints and luxe velvet fabric felt unusually classic in jewel tones, a rare treasure to behold, when done well. Whereas the peplum blouses, textured cardigans, and laid back suiting are sure to become the go-to work wear for the young, modern girl, Port’s signature layering pieces were present, with the mix up of eclecticism and whimsical femininity that caught our attention. A keen eye like Whitney Port’s may be exactly what today’s girl-on-the-go needs for Fall 2012.

Fall 2012 Fashion Week: Tracy Reese, Custo Barcelona

Tracy Reese

Color for fall is a seemingly common theme on the runways, but Tracy Reese‘s take was certainly her own as she continued doing what she loves: bold color (juicy reds and yellows) and adventurous prints. Those short sleeve cocktail dresses oozed metallic superiority. Meanwhile, the peplum jackets with skinny trousers communicated a more sophisticated, feminine, sweet sensation. Silk blouses, cowl neck sweaters, graphic embellishments, and fur collars often stood out.

Custo Barcelona

Talk about zeal for fashion, texture, and color! Custo Barcelona‘s Fall 2012 Runway show aimed to give “homage to the pioneers of creativity.” The show was full of fervor, a whirlwind of color, fringe, sparkles and volumes. Jackets were a sure highlight of the collection with electrifying metallic applications and technically finished fabrics. Cocoon shapes were our personal favorite, but there were also strong versions of uniformed length. There was something native in the raw cuts of the collection, or perhaps the symbolic color representations: white for purity, red for love, green for nature, brown for earth, and black for unity. The overall expression was the love child of art and culture.
