As expected, NYU’s Fashion Business Association offered an interesting, well-edited selection of young designers displaying their latest collections. The eight designers who showed their wares spanned both mens and womens design that ranged from street wear to evening. One of FPD’s favorites from the lineup was Menzer Hajiyeva, who showed a small collection focusing on the use of color and form. Her work this season was much more tailored, offering complex tailoring techniques interspersed with modest infusions of color. Overall, I have to compliment the students on all of their work; NYU does not offer a dedicated fashion design program, so all of the student’s work seen in the show had to be created in an extracurricular manner. With a lot of students balancing 18 credits along with internships, jobs, and everything else, it’s quite impression to put together a collection in their “spare” time, which doesn’t really exist when you’re in college!
