Girls Day Out! Dad tagged along to be our photographer, on a sunny July Saturday in Manhattan with one particular mission: the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibit at The Met. Mom and I rocked our Not Your Daughter’s Jeans Straight Leg Trouser Chinos in White, courtesy of the brand, and perfect for the summer as both a weekend casual and work appropriate garment. As you can tell we may look alike, and even while wearing the same pants, our styles are very different.

Either way, the NYDJ’s patent Tummy Tuck technology made us feel comfy and look a full size smaller. With great stretch, a higher waist, and back pocket slits, these chinos were complimentary to our petite frames, with this particular style available in misses, women, or petites (speaking of, I had to do a quick hem job on both of our chino, chopping 3 inches off of mine, and 5 off of Mom’s!).

So to The Met we went; Mom absolutely LOVED the exhibit, while my Dad somehow worked his way through it in less than 10 minutes, declaring “Now that one (exhibit), I didn’t get at all!” Afterward, we made our way to The Met’s rooftop garden, taking in one of the best views in the city, then went out for a Starbucks run and a Greek dinner in Astoria.

If your not familiar with Not Your Daughter’s Jeans (NYDJ), the brand is known for its lift tuck technology which features a branded signature panel to hold the stomach in, lift your behind, and ‘reshape your curves to look and feel a full size smaller’. Basically what this  translates to, style-wise is that the waist portion/zipper of the jean is elongated (major plus of this is that it elminates ‘plummers crack’, as seen on too many people in skinny, low-waisted jeans), and the back pockets cover more generously. We both agreed that they were perfectly as comfortable as any other jean we owned, and liked the fact that they had way more stretch than other jeans (4% spandex, when most jeans have 1-2%). My Mom prefers to wear tops that hit around the natural waistline, while I prefer tunic length styles (that also conceals the longer zipper fly). We also liked that the sizing ran big – in a size 0 and 4 for myself and my Mother, we felt skinnier even before we asked each other ‘How do I look?’. With a wide selection of styles and colors, NYDJ can truly be worn by both a mother and a daughter, even if they have varying tastes and requirements for jean. I don’t think the stomach aspect was what I was going for, but realized the ‘butt lift’ was a major coup after my Mom couldn’t stop complimenting how cute my derriere looked, and I was admiring how much the jeans smooth and lengthened her incredibly petite frame, we were sold!

You may have heard of Not Your Daughter’s Jeans before, but never thought that you were the ideal clientele for the brand. I thought that it was a prerequisite to be a mom or be at least over the age of 40 to wear the aforementioned jean, but as I sit here in my new pair of the brand’s black Lift Tuck Technology jeans I am eating my own words!  After attending the spring/summer 2010 press preview, I realized that Not Your Daughter’s Jeans caters not only to mothers, but real women looking for denim in a flattering fit. Having developed a unique constructional technique that flattens the stomach, contours the hips and lifts the butt, Not Your Daughter’s Jeans has created a product that all women can feel good in!  And,  with complete line of styles available and garments available, from trousers and capris (new to this season) to blouses and tanks, you’ll never have to wear anything else (if you don’t want to).
