With New York Fashion Week all wrapped up, it’s a perfect time to share my assessment of the top beauty trends sure to be huge in spring 2016 that I saw up close backstage and on the runway. It will come as a relief that for the most part, they are as easy as they come, to execute, and are also quite relaxed, even natural, in their look. Like the fashion trends for spring 2016, most of the beauty looks are a continuation from last season, so your color palette, or techniques, won’t need to be altered by much. Nails seem to be more streamlined, less crazy, but nonetheless, still incredibly cool and inspiring. Without further ado, I give you the three key nail trends from the spring 2016 runways:
Optic White

ORLY for Marissa Webb incorporated the line design and white trends into one; Miss Pop, the lead nail artist used a vibrant opaque white hue (ORLY’s White Tips) that is traditionally used for French manicures to get this look, and a striper brush to make the line, stroking away from the body, with a “ballet file,” that showcases nails in an oval shape, and then quickly squared off at the end.

Katie Jane Hughes for butter LONDON replicated the look of street art and graffiti-like designs in Nicole Miller‘s collection with a splatter effect nail that possesses a white base color (the brand’s Cotton Buds hue).
Color Collage
As essie’s Global Color Designer, you just knew that the nails at Rebecca Minkoff‘s show were going to be something to write home about. One of the coolest parts about them was that they were crowd-sourced by customers, who voted on one of three nail design choices for the show. “Lucite Sunset” won out, and as nail lead Michelle Saunders explained to me, first paint each of the colors on a sponge, then apply to the nails to get the look. Then you pull one color over top of it all, and voila! Easier than you thought it would be? I sure did, and made this video of her doing a demo of the application process for futher guidance.

At Zero + Maria Cornejo, Morgan Taylor‘s lead nail artist, Danielle Candido, broke down the French manicure for an urban, artistic look using All White Now with Mattes a Wrap on top.
Line Design
Morgan Taylor at Jonathan Simkhai went with four different accent colors at the base, and a silver line on each tip. Nail lead Gina Edwards wanted to create something with “dimension and character with a tri-color nail,” that accented the stitching and lattice designs of the clothing.

Noon by Noor’s nails, also done by Morgan Taylor and Gina Edwards, was inspired by the sporty motif of the collection, using One And Only, a sheer pink shade as the base, with Could Have Foiled Me as the stripe, finished off with Need for Speed topcoat.
