NYFW Fall ’15: Lela Rose

by Julia DiNardo

lela rose fall 2015Although the program’s notes clearly stated that Lela Rose was inspired by, and “gave a nod to Wyoming and the American West,” I have to interject that it was clear she executed this with the utmost restraint, quite evidently keeping her customer in mind and created gorgeous, liveable pieces that women of sprawling metropolises will surely love, come fall. The color palette revealed subtle bursts of shiny ornamentation peaking through the sides and backs of garments, worked around its core hues of black, ivory, steel, lilac, light turquoise and magenta.

In its wearability were luxe fabrications such as guipure lace, tweed, cashmere, organza, cotton voile, silk gazar and brocade, accented by gorgeous prints imitating feathers, while the real thing accompanied a top and pant set that displayed the most incredible, eye-catching movement. Fringe and tassels certainly came into play as well, injecting a bit of whimsy and fashionable solidarity into the looks. Rose’s dresses certainly were reminiscent of her signature style most, however pants and even a bit of denim equally held their own.

Fall 2014 Trend: Cranberry

by Julia DiNardo

Forgot that punchy, orangey-red hue that’s been so popular the past few seasons, as everything for fall 2014 is coming up…cranberry! Call it Bordeaux, Merlot, maroon, deep red, but whatever you name it, just know it’s a very important color for the upcoming fall/winter 2014 season! You can of course start to incorporate the color into your wardrobe now, taking the lead from how these designers pair and texturize the hue! Here’s a few of my favorite examples below:

Nicholas K Fall 2014

[All Images via ELLE.com]

Nicholas K showed the shade on a shrunken shawl collar sweater, inspired by menswear yet given soe feminine updates by the ultra soft and black tone fur trim.

Tadashi Shoji Fall 2014

Tashashi Shoji naturally takes a sophisticated approach, softening it up with tiers of sheer lace, appropriate for fall in a long sleeve form and sheer hosiery.

cynthia rowley fall 2014

Cynthia Rowley goes cranberry on cranberry on cranberry, also using a touch of fur but harmonizing the look with some retro pastels and funky socks to add a bit of individuality to the look.

Pamella Roland worked the shade into opulent eveningwear by utlizing a subtly geometric pattern paired with an ultra plush  fur collar, a bright lip, and glistening  high boots.

Nicole Miller went a bit more high voltage in the shade AND the garment, horizontally quilting the sleeves of the moto jacket for added dimension and matching it with the reddish tone that appeared in the dress.

J.Crew also took a slightly different approach to the shade, styling it to monochromatic perfection, but also muting the shade a notch or two, making it appear as more of a dusty rose.

reed krakoff

Backstage at Reed Krakoff, Michelle Saunders for essie went for a vampy look on the toes, with  two coats of “carry on” with a polished top coat of “good to go” to accentuate the killer footwear in the collection.

NYFW Fall 2013: Through the Editor’s Lens Part I

by Julia DiNardo

Through my eyes and the camera lens, I’m bringing what I see, and love, to you! There’s so much happening and a myriad of information and visuals being dispersed during the week, that I’d love to give more of a personal perspective on the experience of covering shows and seeing the latest looks and soon-to-be trends.

Pictured here, and above are pieces from the Ben-Amun Foiled Bold and Crystal Collection and Crystal Chevron Collection, with pieces that were just statement and stunning, through and through.

From Made in NY –the Dana-Maxx Fall/Winter 2013 Collection, featuring rich jersey fabrics and fabulous color blocking, complimented by Ben-Amun jewelry.

[After a complimentary blow out at The Garnier Blow Out Bar with Lara of Pretty Connected]

Featured above is the wall of Garnier products at the brand’s Blow Out Bar at Time Warner Center, with many new products on display. I can’t wait to try the Dry Shampoo, volume, and Recharge line products! There were also some cool men’s styling gels for specific styles (see pics above).

The blizzard cometh! Trying to stay chic and dry in my Sorel Joan of Artic boots!
Today I’m wearing my favorite animal ring from MiMi by Sorrelli, which I call “Bartholomeow;” taking in the Carmen Marc Valvo show. on day two of New York Fashion Weke.

NYFW Fall 2013: Veronica Beard

by Julia DiNardo

Veronica Beard’s Fall 2013 collection took viewers on a journey to the wild American west. The motif provided an urban spin on the western uniform by layering knits with flannel button-ups, bandana print skirts with shearling coats, while other looks incorporated quintessential  cowboy staples of denim and leather. Natural elements from the frontier, such as wheat stems, were incorporated into prints for dresses and blouses while the color palette was grounded in the earth with hues of amber, green, purple, deep blues, and browns. This journey through fabrics culminated in the discovery of gold in the form of a backless gold column gown as the eveningwear portion of the colletion. The cowboys were known for their adventurous spirit and these pieces help to keep that essence alive for the modern woman who has to trail blaze her way through the city to get to where she wants to be.
