The Show: Libertine Spring/Summer 2013 Presentation
The Theme: 1930s housewife meets graffiti artist teenager at a chaotic warehouse party. Frenzied stencil prints with glitter embellishments, floral gowns, and spray-painted arm-warmers and socks may sound like a strange mix, but all-in-all the presentation managed to look more like a throng of well-dressed teenagers at a time-warped The Clash concert.
The Color Palette: Bright red, bubblegum pink, canary yellow, black, and pops of every other color in the rainbow + crystal skullheads.
Best/Collection’s Signature Standout Look: The audience’s eyes were literally wandering trying to follow the constantly moving models, but despite the roughly orchestrated presentation, designer Johnson Hartig made the jarring prints appealing. In years past, Libertine has been known for blacks and muted colors, albeit crazy technicolor held its own. The most memorable pieces, in a collection full of anti-establishment bites, were handbags made to look like adorable birdhouses, what look to be housecoats transformed into bias-cut glittery gowns, and a screen-printed tee with the political slogan “Don’t Mitt Wear You Sleep”.
