My style idol this week got her “start” on one of the most popular reality series on TV (The Hills) and now has her own reality show documenting her life in NYC (The City): Whitney Port. She’s worked for Teen Vogue; fashion PR firm, People’s Revolution; and recently started her own clothing line, Eve & A, so it’s safe to say this girl knows fashion.

And she uses that knowledge well.

What I love about Whitney’s style is that she’s not afraid to take risks; she mixes and matches trends and gives them her own personal take. She’s also a big fan of fun & flirty dresses and she’s not afraid to go for bright, over-the-top colors and prints. (Although, it’s not hard to look good when you are already blessed with perfect hair, flawless skin and zero percent body fat.) She does a great job of pairing “louder” accessories and/or shoes with simple frocks, and when it’s time to glam it up, she picks classic gowns with a modern edge, the perfect look for an early-twenties girl.

Adding to her personal wardrobe, no matter where Whitney is going or what she’s wearing she never overdoes it with her hair and makeup. She most often keeps her beautiful blonde locks loose and wavy, and her makeup always looks natural and beautiful. Whitney knows her stuff when it comes to looking great and is a Style Idol to young women everywhere.

IMG has pulled out of the deal with Smashbox Studios for fashion week in LA, but we still are quite interestedin what the sunshine state has to offer. We chose several shows to review from this last outing with IMG:

• Whitley Kros

Marissa Ribisi and Sophia Bank’s collection for L.A. Fashion Week was the definition of laidback West Coast style with slouchy everything. The collection featured nature-inspired graphics including our new favorite– the leopard print, on airy blouses and dresses, and pants sprinkled with bold red flowers. We loved how they mixed formal pieces with casual pieces by pairing things like a blazer with a pajama-like tank and shorts. This youthful line presents the perfect outfits to soak up the sun in.

• Lauren Conrad

While we’re devoted Team Conrad supporters, we found the Lauren Conrad Collection to be very…uninspiring. There was nothing new or inventive about her looks. We’ve seen plain tanks tucked into high waisted skirts before—on Lauren herself. The clothes and the hairstyles made the models look like LC clones. Her saving grace were the embellished headbands, a style that we saw at Diane Von Furstenberg and Alexander McQueen this season, but unfortunately most of them just looked tacky. This reality star needs to step up her game if she wants to be taken seriously in the fashion industry.

• Crispin & Basilio

For Crispin & Basilio, designer Donny Barrios achieved what Lauren Conrad was striving for — he transformed the street style of LC’s beloved tank and high-waisted skirt into a sophisticated and unique look. He used textured metallic and creped fabrics, and added long vests and pretty sheer blouses to the style. Although most of the collection had a New York feel to it, the John Lennon shades gave it some signature L.A. flavor.

This year at the Emmy Awards, Fashion Pulse discovered that the red carpet twinkled and sparkled with various gems and baubles not found on the hottest prime-time celebs’ necks, wrists, or ears. Instead, we found quite a bit of bling on their gowns! Lauren Conrad made her own simply-designed dress memorable and unique with the addition of a diamond flower brooch. Stars like Holly Hunter and Brooke Shields also went from boring to dazzling with the same brooch trend, and others, such as Hayden Panettiere, Heidi Klum, and Kate Walsh simply radiated with their gem-encrusted frocks.

Previously, we considered the perfect placement for brooches to be inside our grandmother’s jewelry box or at vintage shops, but as we learned from the Emmys last night, it’s time to bring the trend back! We found some inexpensive and stylish pins so you can be the belle of the ball (or office), too! Affix this Black Studded Brooch from Mango to a dress to add a gothic feel for $29. A pink or yellow Flower Brooch from Jessica McClintock is perfect for spring ($32). Next, this Forever 21 Studded Bow Pin ( $7.80) is chic and classy, while the Faux-Quartz Star Pin from J.Crew ($65) is sure to make you stand out in a crowd.
