Pumped for Fall

by Julia DiNardo

julia dinardo fashion pulse
Flocked fabrics for fall, please! By flocked, I mean anything that has a little bit of “fuzz” to it, a bit raised off of the surface, but not too puffy or high to be a distraction. In this instance, I’m referring to fleece and suede, which help to transition our minds and bodies to the sartorial needs of winter, aka piling on layer after layer after layer! A rich suede really wins me over when it comes to fall style, and these Rockport Total Motion Pointy Toe Pumps in Mauve Wine Kid Glove take the ultimate approach to softness and comfort.

They not only look great, but feel amazing; I had to share a pic of the sole so that you could see that I rest sturdy in these heels, thanks to the ADIPRENE by adidas technology that absorbs shock while providing comfort and stability. The inside has the cushiest of foam insoles, so literally from the inside out, my feet feel as good as they would, and maybe even better, dare I say, than wearing a pair of canvas sneakers! As you can tell, I’m pumped for fall, and can’t wait to further explore the style possibilities of these heels in the “it” color of the season with other pieces in my wardrobe.

On a Beach in Hawaii

by Julia DiNardo

julia dinardo fashion pulse daily

It’s pretty much exactly two years since I’ve been on a beach in Hawaii, and I constantly think about the moment when I will get to return again. I also have been trying to embrace the mentality of  “being on a beach in Hawaii” as I go about my weekday and weekend chores, attempting to remain as zen and mindful as possible as I check them off the list, one by one.

These pants though, make my dreams of Hawaii quite evident, thanks to the over sized frangipani flower print and casual silhouette. While on the island of Kauai, I purchased them so that I met the requirements of our ATV tour, which got quite muddy and dusty. Since then, I’ve elevated their existence to office attire and special occasions, like a trip to a match at the US Open, and last weekend, to my favorite beach in Long Island. It’s all a matter of balancing the baggy shape and dressing it up (or down) with accessories. I like wearing them with a knitted tank or tee, keeping it pulled together and sophisticated with a slash of bright lip color, a manicure, and some well-balanced jewelry.

You can’t help but smile when you see, and wear these pants, and as sentimental as they may be to me, the continually do their job of getting me into that “beach in Hawaii” mindset. I hope you have a piece in your wardrobe that does that for you too, automatically taking your mind on a rapid journey to your happy place.

#RocktheCrop

by Julia DiNardo

julia dinardo #rockthecrop

Social media can take lemons… and make lemonade. It’s true! For example, take the body-shaming quote found in O, The Oprah Magazine, that stated that someone can only wear a crop top only if they have a flat something. What?! My friend Tamar Anitai encouraged women to not be restricted by these fashion rules, be confident, own it, and #RocktheCrop.

The concept spread like wildfire, and soon, many women were taking to social media using the hashtag and posting pics of them wearing crop tops. Because of the mentality of these so called, “fashion rules,” I’ve only one crop top to my name, which I never ever wore, but strangely feel more at ease than ever with wearing the look now, thanks to #RocktheCrop.  This particular crop top, which is at least 15 years old, has a very subtle peekaboo effect, but I find that it totally fits my aesthetic, and looks phenomenal with its matching skirt.  Just to think, all of those years, it lay dormant in my drawer, because I didn’t feel confident enough to pull it off.

So I say to you, dear reader: It’s summer, it’s hot outside, and warm weather fashions are just such a joy…why don’t you rock the crop?

Hat Tricks

by Julia DiNardo

julia dinardo as a baby

[I’m not squinting at the sun; instead, I’m surly that my mom made me wear a hat!]

All my life, my mom has tried to convince me, or rather, force me, to be a hat person. She’s a hat person, and thus, that trait must transfer to me, right? Not exactly. I’ve sheepishly worn them to make her happy for festive or mandatory occasions, such at Easter or to the beach, but I’ve never been pleased with the way that I look. Until now. It’s not that I think I look awesome in a hat, but have grown to appreciate its practicality and benefits, which outweigh the way I feel that I look in them.

Here’s a few of the hat tricks that I’ve learned that help achieve, in my opinion the optimal look:

1) You’ve got to have some hair sticking out. As you can see from my various looks over the past year, my hair has been at different lengths, but you can still gather that I have some locks sticking out. That way, you have a natural frame around your face, and the object on your had seems to be less of a foreign object, and more of a friend.

2) It’s arguably the best way to conceal a bad hair day. Sure, you can be ultra generous with the dry shampoo, or pull your locks up into a messy bun or ponytail, but usually when your hair looks crazy or is visibly greasy/dirty, this isn’t going to make that much of a difference. With a hat though, you conceal the worst part, the roots, and none is the wiser that underneath that hat is something you’d rather not show to the public.

3)  You’ve got instant sass. There’s just something so cool about someone that pulls of a hat with confidence, and it can be become a quick and easy statement to an otherwise basic look. Depending on your hair style, it may give the impression that you’re stylish, quirky, or fun, and all of those things are certainly okay with me!

Here’s a look at the past year of me in hats, with a special last one; a custom-made fascinator that I opted to wear, instead of a veil, on my wedding day.

Mom, you win — I do finally like hats!
