What I Wore: NYFW Look 4

by Julia DiNardo

P1110380

While I’m traveling in Japan this week and next, I wanted to provide some content and personal style without letting too much time lapse on the blog while away. It doesn’t get much more exciting than what I wore to New York Fashion Week, so I thought I’d exploit the few remaining looks I’ve yet to post, so you can feast your eyes on my most cherished fashion and accessories items. By this point in time, fashion week has literally made its way around the world, and the fall/winter collections are almost a wrap. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo still remains, and I’m about to embark upon it this week while in Japan. I always wonder how people pack and prepare to attend fashion week who don’t live in the host city, and now it’s my turn to be one of those people, trying to carefully plot it out in advance.

True, I do plan a bit in advance for what I will wear in New York, but I also pull a wide section of about a dozen extra pieces and set them aside in case the mood strikes me to wear one, or a couple of them, instead. As we embark upon a six-city tour, keeping my wardrobe at a minimum is essential, so that my back, shoulders, and neck remain in tact, which proves an extra challenge when attending one of the most glamorous events  one can possibly fathom. Stay tuned in the comign weeks for how I dress for my big trip to Japan, and to fashion week (hint: I get a lot of help from my friends at Athleta!).

Monday Morning

by Julia DiNardo

P1110146

Mondays have the tendency to…not really be that cool. They can cause a lot of anxiety and trepidation for the lot of us, despite loving life, loving our jobs, and/or loving our paychecks. I’m thrilled for those of us that have the day off today, but next Monday will surely come, and more of the same feeling will creep in again. Lately, in order to try to kick away the Monday blues I’ve been starting the week with an outfit that I absolutely love that is no frills, easy to wear, and versatile for a variety of occasions.

I’ve also been starting the week with an early morning photo session, when the sun is in that special place, and I haven’t had coffee yet, which could potentially be a perilous endeavor. Wearing what I love and doing what I love, first thing in the morning on the first day of the work week has helped to set the precedent for positivity and productivity for the rest of my days, spent grinding away on various work projects, some considered to be chores I’d rather not be doing.

Sometimes it’s just taking a few minutes to slow down, taking a quiet morning moment to read a section of the newspaper at the table, or listening to your favorite song while on the way to work, can reset you mentally and get you to accept what you need to do, and give you the peace of mind to get through it.

To and Fro Pennsylvania

by Julia DiNardo

I go back to Pittsburgh, PA quite often, and after all of this time I still stress out a little over what to pack and what to leave behind. What goes into my handbag is actually the easiest part of it all, as those items tend to pretty much stay them same, with some seasonal updates and swaps. Pictured above are my most dire items, which can usually be found tucked (somewhat) neatly inside of my handbag du jour, with this one being the Rebekah bag in olive from Sole Society.

See below for an explanation of why each of these items are always considered a holiday travel essential to me:

Fake it Until…

by Julia DiNardo

julia_dinardo

You make it, right? That’s what you’re is supposed to do, when the going gets tough, and you’re not where you want to be with a certain task or aspect of life. That’s me lately; I’ve been challenging myself to be motivated and get through the day, the responsibility, the “must,” when I absolutely don’t feel like it. It’s exhausting on so many levels, but at some point, some normalcy will avail and take over, right at the point when I’ve just about had enough. I’ve given into the attempts of being kind to myself, perhaps a touch too indulgent and hedonistic  (I’ve been too generous to myself with the sea salted caramels, less so with the exercising) to try to get through this difficult time in my life, and without over sharing, let’s just say that family, and taking care of myself, has become more of a priority than work slavishly behind my computer.
