One of my favorite places to shop before school is J.Crew. Everything about it is sophisticated, fresh and fabulous. But my only issue with the store is that all that sophistication doesn’t come cheap. Sometimes I’ll walk in, pick up a cute skinny belt for my new pencil skirt (from Marshalls…), look at the price tag and try not to strangle myself with it. $89 dollars for a string of leather???

As I repeat to myself, There are people starving in Africa, there are people starving in Africa, I promptly leave the store empty handed, looking wistfully back at the perfectly put together outfits in the window.

But thanks to store turnover and a whole new crop of Fall fashion pouring into J. Crew stock rooms nationwide, I can finally fulfill my J. Crew dreams. Yes, it’s time for their end-of-summer sale they’ve got some really great goodies to offer, all under $20! I even spotted a leather skinny belt! Let the celebration commence.

I am totally for this all-over-mini-ruffles flirty number. The neon elastic waistband makes a perfect fit for tucking in (with a cute white tee), or going casual. I’m loving the stone blue color for fall as well; with a cute pair of tights this skirt can be transformed into the perfect fall outfit.

Imagine this: sitting in the nearest coffee shop, poring over your laptop, sipping a latte….wearing this. Isn’t that a perfectly painted picture? That’s immediately what I thought of when this beautiful double knit sweater graced me with its presence. It’s an easy pullover for a chilly day, sheer, and super soft (for all of those cute boys hanging all over you in the quad).

This rocker-glam inspired accessory is perfectly balanced with the super feminine attitude of the skinny belt. I love it! It also comes in mustard yellow (i.e. bronzed avocado). Buying Tip: It’s designed to be worn on the natural waist, so get a size bigger if you want to wear it lower.

I am a BIG fan of cardigans for fall. Or always. And I am constantly looking for another one to liven up my layering. This one is the perfect color to brighten up those dreary fall days and cropped to perfection. It will look adorable with flats and a light-weight scarf. And can you see the chic add-on of those blingin’ buttons? Heaven.

From our friends at thefind.com:

When it comes to summer style, I am loving the embellished tunic trend — not just for their elaborate, intricate details like embroidering and beading, but also for their versatility that allows you to rock them all summer long, day or night. Tunics are a step up from your basic tees and tanks because they’re just as comfortable (with lots of breathing room!) but dress things up just a bit with their day-friendly sparkle, or can even dress things up a whole lot, depending on how you choose to rock it! Wear one with jeans or with a pair of shorts and espadrilles for a casual but upscale daytime look, or if the length of the tunic allows for it, wear it as a dress or with leggings and heels for a night on the town!

This Tory Burch tunic is your perfect basic embroidered and embellished version, and is the perfect length for pairing with a pair of shorts. For a more daring look, this fringed tunic by J. Crew is funky without looking too fancy for daytime, and I’m loving the Moroccan feel of this coin-embellished tropical print one by Tibi, both available at Net-a-Porter. If you’re willing to embrace the sheer trend that’s so hot for summer, this Plenty by Tracy Reese smocked tunic is sparkly and gorgeous over a tank or cropped cami!

- Alex Gambardella

Summer is the time for travel and whether you’re renting a yacht in Ibiza, backpacking through Budapest, or venturing on a road trip with the entire family to Aunt Bertha’s farm in Minnesota, you need to travel smart. But I’m not going to remind you to pack your passport and warn you of the 100ml carry-on liquid restriction; instead I am going to unveil the secrets of traveling fashionably.

Don’t pack three suitcases and a duffel bag for a week long vacation. Even if you were Victoria Beckham and Anna Wintour’s spawn fashion baby you could not squeeze that many wardrobe changes into a day, so travel light. Bring only what you know you will wear and pack it into a stylish suitcase like this Croc Cabin Suitcase by Jasper Conran at Tripp, $107.63. Your luggage will be your traveling home while on vacation so shop for one that matches your personality. Find a suitcase that you really like such as this J.Crew Globe-Trotter Suitcase because for the amount of time you’ll be lugging it around in the airport and train station, you better love it!

Wrap your pocket book around your body. And no readers, I am not suggesting a fanny pack or belly bag! I suggest while visiting any extremely touristic place like the Eiffel Tower or Disney Land, ditch the hobo bag and strap on a satchel bag similar to this Quilted Crossbody Bag by Express, $34.90. My recommendation comes from a lesson learned in the Roman metros of Italy. While riding the metro, some gypsy woman thought it was a good idea to try and pickpocket me and my zipper shut bag. Luckily I have the cat-like reflexes of Naomi Campbell and took care of my assailant (minus any phone throwing, I could never pelt a gypsy with my Blackberry). But I was shocked by how little protection a zipper can provide, so I bought myself a bag like Marc by Marc Jacobs Crossbody Bag, $268, and wore it backwards so the closure faced in on my body, and ever since, no Italian muggings!

Wear comfortable shoes. You never know where you’re going to end up while traveling so a versatile, all-weather shoe comes in great handy. If you’re a girl like me who only wears sneakers to the gym, try on a pair of oxford flats like Giraudon’s Almond-Toe-Oxford. This kind of shoe is very walkable because of the slight heel which nixes any lower back or arch pain that you might feel from wearing flats for too long, and they can be worn with anything. Take this Urban Outfitters Classic Oxford Flat, $58, that can be styled with a shirt and jeans or a dress.

Pack a pair of sunglasses. Rain or shine sunglasses are a necessity in any travel circumstance. Of course while tanning on the beaches of Mexico a pair of Vintage Emmanuelle Khanh Oversized Sunglasses, $183.44, are a no-brainer, but sunglasses are also functional accessories during a lay-over or a long train ride. Sunglasses can provide the allusion of haughty alertness while indoors if you’re asleep to ward off undesirables. As long as you keep the snoring and drooling to a minimum, sunglasses can be very useful.

Via our lovely friends at thefind.com:

Yes, I’m a fan of Hunter Wellie rain boots, but they seem to be growing in popularity and are showing up on well-dressed feet all round town. I am looking for a new pair of unique rain boots and found Aigle rain boots that are made in France. Mais oui! These boots are a bit more fitted and I love the riding boot style that is made completely of rubber. A lovely boot to throw on with leggings and an over-sized chunky knit sweater when I’m running out the door in a hurry. These boots are tailored and becoming every bit as fashionable as the Hunter wellies. These boots are from Aigle, which provides outdoor gear to French sportsmen, equestrians and those who visit the countryside for pleasure. Yes, these are the real deal and are perfect for urbanites looking for a waterproof and comfortable city rain boot.

Retailers including Martin + Osa and J. Crew now carry Aigle boots. On the upper left is the Aigle Start Riding Boot ($103.20 was $129.00 at Martin and Osa), a lovely plain black riding boot that is a perfect reproduction of their leather counterparts. On the model are a pair of violet Burberry rain boots (upper right, $195 at Net-a-Porter) to show you how utterly fab skinny jeans look tucked into tall rain boots. On the bottom row far left is the Aigle Women’s Bergen lace up rain boot ($207.95 at Shoebuy.com). I love the lace up fronts, which makes tucking in your jeans easier and ensuring an extra snug fit. Again in the riding boot style these two-toned Aigle Jumping Rubber Boots ( bottom row middle, $199.99 at saddlesource.com) look like traditional dressage riding boots if you are looking for the Bon chic, bon genre aka French preppy style. Lastly is the two-toned Aigle Women’s Rubber Boot in Brown, ($149.00 at studentmarket.com). I love the two-toned texture of this one, a nice alternative to an all black boot, would look chic and sporty paired with tweed and a chunky cashmere sweater.

When the Obamas get to the white house in January, the change that ensues will not only be in politics. Michelle Obama has become a fashion icon and will no doubt change the image of the typical first lady from stuffy and conservative to fashionable and funky. Over the course of the campaign, we’ve seen Mrs. Obama in colorful and modern frocks by Thakoon, Narciso Rodriquez, and Moschino. However, Michelle knows that you don’t have to spend $150,000 to look great. She set her style precedent and penchant for affordable clothing by appearing on The View in a dress from WhiteHouse/Black Market that cost only $148! We’ve picked out a few looks that we think would be perfect for Michelle’s new role in the White House, in case she is seeking some Fashion Pulse Stylist advice!

For important events, we think Michelle would look fabulous in this Michael Kors Gardenia Floral dress, $1,895, from NET-A-PORTER. Purple is a great color for her, and she has already proven she can rock any print. For a classic look with a twist, we equally love this Temperley London Purdey Dress, ($1,295, also NET-A-PORTER). For inauguration day we think the perfect pick for the First Lady would be this Carolina Herrera Aubergine Pleated Dress ($2,790, Neiman Marcus).

For everyday wear, we know Michelle loves J.Crew and has been spotted in brightly colored pants and form-fitting cardies, so we think these City-fit Luxe Trousers, $69.50, in saffron yellow, paired with the Victoria Ruffle Shirt,$89.50, both from J.Crew is the perfect mix of her classy but fun style. To top it off, we would add this Abstract Flower Pin ($22.50 Express) to show off her ability to skillfully accessorize. We also think the First Lady would look chic yet approachable in this It’s-My-Party Polka Dot Skirt ($168, Anthropologie) paired with the Robert Rodriquez Cashmere Cardigan ($216, Nordstrom). No word yet on weather the First Lady-Elect will request our stylist services, but either way, we think that when it comes to fashion, she can.

This year at the Emmy Awards, Fashion Pulse discovered that the red carpet twinkled and sparkled with various gems and baubles not found on the hottest prime-time celebs’ necks, wrists, or ears. Instead, we found quite a bit of bling on their gowns! Lauren Conrad made her own simply-designed dress memorable and unique with the addition of a diamond flower brooch. Stars like Holly Hunter and Brooke Shields also went from boring to dazzling with the same brooch trend, and others, such as Hayden Panettiere, Heidi Klum, and Kate Walsh simply radiated with their gem-encrusted frocks.

Previously, we considered the perfect placement for brooches to be inside our grandmother’s jewelry box or at vintage shops, but as we learned from the Emmys last night, it’s time to bring the trend back! We found some inexpensive and stylish pins so you can be the belle of the ball (or office), too! Affix this Black Studded Brooch from Mango to a dress to add a gothic feel for $29. A pink or yellow Flower Brooch from Jessica McClintock is perfect for spring ($32). Next, this Forever 21 Studded Bow Pin ( $7.80) is chic and classy, while the Faux-Quartz Star Pin from J.Crew ($65) is sure to make you stand out in a crowd.
