This most recent New York Fashion Week came with newly revived trends from the 80’s and early 90’s, complete with accentuated shoulders, off-the-shoulder tops, voluminous silhouettes, and plenty of ruffles. A standout trend from this category though, was the classic power suit, revamped. With the rise of androgyny on the runway over the past few years, this is not a surprising direction for brands to embark upon. Designers like Calvin Klein, Vivienne Tam, and Jason Wu all showed versions of the menswear-inspired suit look, each with its own unique styling.

Amy Smilovic of Tibi included pinstripe blazers in an extra-oversized fit, while more classically tailored pieces in monochromatic styling appeared on the runway at The Row. At Nicole Miller, edgy, grunge inspired suiting was featured in the collection, complimented by graphic embroidery and dark, smudged eye makeup.

Judging from the recent runway shows for the upcoming spring/summer 2017 season, next spring will definitely be the perfect time to try out that bold lip color or vibrant eyeshadow that you’ve been hesitant to use in the past. The beauty trends from this most recent fashion week season are anything but subtle, with looks ranging from solid glitter lips to bright and bold eyeshadow that stretches way beyond the eyelids.

Classic looks like the timeless red lip also made a major statement on many prominent runways. One of the most notable trends that has taken off in runway shows all over the globe is the use of glitter. Bold looks even took over at New York Fashion Week, which is more known for showcasing extremely minimal, no-makeup beauty looks on its runways. Despite this however, DKNY’s show a few weeks ago had one of the most talked-about beauty looks overall. The makeup for the show was done by reknowned makeup artist Pat McGrath, who used the DKNY runway to showcase her most recent release, the currently sold out Lust 004 Lipstick Kit. The look is made up of a red lipstick base with pressed glitter on top, making for a truly show-stopping look. The glitter did not only show up on lips, but also in eyeliner, as seen at Versace, and in painted-on embellishments in various geometric shapes, as seen at Giamba.

Following along with the boldness of heavy glitter is the use of bold, colorful eyeshadow, which at many shows was applied also along the cheekbones as highlighter, as well as extending across the eyelids. At Victoria Beckham, emerald green and cobalt blue shadow made a huge statement, and was fresh and unusual compared to what the designer would normally choose for makeup looks. At Louis Vuitton and Max Mara, similar eye definition was used, but even more dramatic. Vibrant hues of green and orange were glided along both the cheekbones and eyelids at Max Mara, which was a perfect fit within its tropical-inspired collection. At Louis Vuitton, a sleek cat-eye in black liner was complimented by deep navy shadow, which extended far over the brows. Finally, among the abundance of bold glitter and vibrant eyeshadow, the classic red lip proved that it’s here to stay, making appearances on runways like Jason Wu, Cushnie et Ochs, and Creatures of the Wind. At Cushnie et Ochs, the look was slightly updated, and was actually two-toned. The top lip was done in a timeless red shade, and the bottom in a more vibrant pink-red.

Marc Jacobs Beauty launches today!!! The collection of 122 products, ranging in price from $18-$78, hit Sephora and select Marc Jacobs stores today, so you know I had to make it a priority to  stop in! The concealer and foundations were light and creamy, with great color selections, the nail polishes possessed a perfect opaque, and the lipsticks 
(referred to as Lip Gels) were plumping with pigmented, but approachable hues.  I bought two items, but could tell that other people had the same idea, as some of the lipsticks and polishes were already sold out! The incredible packaging of the products, based on the polished look of an art deco coffee tablet he designer has in his home.
Jacobs proves his commitment to the line by already going ahead and opening his first beauty store, located at 385 Bleecker street, at the site of his former accessories store.  You can also shop his fragrances there (I am addicted to pretty much all of them), along with the designer’s other lines in the nearby shops next door and across the street.

Fashion designer Jason Wu, who most notably dressed the First Lady and did a capsule collection with Target, will launch a limited edition color cosmetics line with Lancôme, debuting during this September’s New York Fashion Week! There will be 15 items, from $15-$49, and will be a Nordstrom exclusive, except in NYC, where it will be carried at Bergdorf Goodman, and at that, only 120 Lancôme locations/counters will have it! We wish we had pics to share, but in the meanwhile, will just have to envision what the line will look like; touted to include navy mascara (a favorite of mine!), red lipsticks, and a five-pan eye shadow palette.
