The Difference a Week Makes

by Julia DiNardo

img_0726

Last week at the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) the only indicators that fall was in the air was the abundance of pumpkins and a slightly crisp feel in the air. This week a burst of varied, radiant color could be seen on the ground and in the trees, as the leaves began to edge toward the end of their cycle for the year. The paths and trails became quite an idyllic setting, enjoyed even more as it is known that this moment was fleeting, and wouldn’t be quite the same tomorrow or the following week. Before visiting again this week, I had been a bit forlorn, thinking that I pretty much blew it by not going to the NYBG during the summer, but little did I know that the best was yet to come. It just reinforces an adage that a 6th grade history professor reinforced over and over again: “assume nothing.”

This weekend my inclination was to dress rather casually, as there’s not nearly enough time for cozy sneakers and flannel Monday-Friday.  Hopefully you are also enjoying this delightful fall weather, taking in the change of seasons with some new fall wardrobe staples in tow!

What FPD Has Been Up to Lately

by Julia DiNardo

Last night was a whirlwind of events. While only making it to three (there were several more on the list) it made me think and reflect on the evolution of the fashion industry, and how crucial technology is to retail. From the invention of  ‘moving staircases’ (escalators) for department store sales at the turn of the century to ecommerce, we can’t escape the impact that technology has on our consumer lives. My two cents for now  – think about it for a minute, and enjoy seeing what I saw last night!

Hudson Jeans Fall/Holiday 2010 Collection

I had the privilege of being taken through the latest collection by the affable Ben Taverniti, HUDSON Jeans Creative Director. I got to see the pull-on cargo jeans first hand, which are quite cool, and the new leather detailing found on waistbands and hemlines,  as well as tight, but incredibly amazing collection of outerwear and tops.  Definitely would buy every single piece – and you know I’m already smitten by the Beth Baby Boot jeans!

Yeohlee Garment District Boutique Opening

Acclaimed designer Yeohlee, whose garments have been featured in museums and a strong part of the New York old guard of design since 1981, opened a multi-use space in the garment district last night. The store features key pieces from her runway collections designed for the  urban nomad (a phrase she coined) and the location also houses her design studio and archives. Next time you’re in the area, check it out at 25 West 38th Street in NYC

Club Monaco at Shopbop e-commerce Launch Party

Today marks the official launch of Club Monaco at Shopbop – the brand’s first foray into e-commerce with select pieces from the brand now available online. Shop the entire line here and more specifically, find the jacket I’m wearing above here and the fab driving gloves I LOVE here.

The Hudson Baby Boot

by Julia DiNardo

I know that skinny jeans won’t be around forever, but what is the next evolution for denim cuts? if the Spring 2011 runways were any indication, a flare leg is coming back into style. I was glad when Hudson Jeans offered me their latest style, the Beth Baby Boot,  to try out. I wasn’t sure if this leg would work for me, and could hardly remember the days before the skinny jean – how would I adjust my wardrobe to reflect a new style? Natural indigo dyed Brigg wash, fitted, and low rise, the Baby Boot retails  for $198, and I think, gave me a bit more of a statuesque appeal for my 5’1 frame. The flare for the boot cut portion is a perfect transition away from skinny jeans; it just gives a little bit of volume, without a full blown boot leg to get adjusted to.
In this look:

  • Subversive Jewelry for Target Necklace
  • Mossimo Pumps (Target, four years old)

Hudson Jeans’ Fall 2010 Ad Campaign

by fashionpulse

I just got wind of the new Hudson Jeans fall/winter 2010 ad campaign, with Georgia May Jagger (yes, of that Jagger dynasty). Shot by Mario Sorrenti in the Alder Mansion, built in 1912 Italian Renaissance style in Yonkers, NY, this campaign is sure to be sexy, sultry, and all about the jeans, right? I don’t know about you, but I’m digging this guy’s tattoo as well.
