JCrew (pictured above) absolutely nailed it with their ladylike collection of handbags for spring 2012. Blue, orange, green, yellow…did we mention leopard?! Perfectly practical, but still extremely fashion forward.

Clutches

I simply can’t pick a favorite, so let’s call it a tie. Proenza Schouler (at top) mixed textures to create tweed clutches with chunky chain detail straps, while Chloe mixed accessories to make what looks to be a bracelet-bag combo. Gotta have it!

Shoes

Celine really wowed with their take on the platform heel/pump for the upcoming season. Basic black or the marriage of black and red, simplicity says it all. Even more incredible, with your ankle strapped in, these shoes look totally wearable – dare I even say comfortable?

Sunglasses

Frameless sunglasses at Fendi felt interestingly academic. Deviating away from the line’s normal sexuality, the glasses definitely added to the serious, studious woman, a style rather novel for Fendi.

Jewelry

Bracelets: The stacked multi-colored bangles at Carolina Hererra proved that wrists should not be left naked. The more, the merrier come Spring 2012.

Necklaces: Donna Karan went wild with her tribal-inspired neckpieces strung with wood and plastic. Meanwhile, Givenchy’s statement shark-tooth pendants give “sharp” a double meaning.

I just realized that I’ve had a thing for British brands lately; from my Jaeger obsession to the ongoing admiration and fascination with all things Alexander McQueen and recently a penchant for Burberry makeup and handbags, I might as well start taking a tea time with biscuits and calling the subway the underground.

This is one of my favorite new looks for the work day – I’m wearing a silk black Jaeger dress with rouched mid-length sleeves and black Givenchy floral tights, pale pink Nine West pumps, punched up with a classic Alexander McQueen Skull Silk Chiffon Scarf and teal quilted Jaeger handbag. [Is it just me or is there another “revolutionary” new makeup product introduced every freaking day?! Just walking into Ulta or Sephora (or even Walgreens!) sends many chicas into fits of hysteria, reaching for the nearest brown bag to regulate their breathing. It’s all so overwhelming. So how can you know which product – among the sea of thousands – is the best? Which does what you need it to do? Which ones are worth the extra money? Let me help. I don’t know every beauty product out there, but I’ve tested a lot of them and I’ll let you know which are worth the money and which are not.]

What it is:
Givenchy ‘Play’ and ‘Play Intense‘ Eau De Parfum Spray

Why this should be in your bag:
Every girl should have a signature fragrance! I’ve been on the hunt for mine for a while now and while I’ve dabbled in different luxury and not-so-luxury brands, I never found anything that jumped out at me. Until I took a whiff of this.

Givenchy describes Play as “a woody, fruity floral aromatic fragrance. A sparkling fragrance, Play for Her Eau de Parfum radiates smiles and freedom, leaving a delicate musky imprint on the skin.” Smiles and freedom? Sounds good to me!

Play Intense is described as “a woody, ambery floral aromatic fragrance. A warm fragrance, Play for Her Eau de Parfum Intense exudes a dark sensuality with the promise of exhilerating playtime.” I don’t know if I agree with everything the description promises (exhilerating playtime?!), but it sure does smell wonderful!

How to use it:
Firstly, you have to make sure this is the right scent for you. Go to your local department store and ask for a sample. Scents change when applied, so what you smell in the bottle may not be what you get with wear. The tester should last you for a couple days in which you can ask your friends and family how they like your new perfume. As long as they’re honest people, you’ll have a good idea of whether the scent works for you!

It’s never too late to add a touch of holiday sparkle and shine to your makeup regimen, and I’ve found the new, limited edition holiday palette from Givenchy to  perfectly meet my needs. I tested the latest lipstick, lipgloss, and eye liner in elegant pearl, tender pearl, and pearl shine, and was beyond pleased with the results. I never like to go overboard with the shimmer, and these floaty, light colors are an easy way to add some oomph to your usual color palette. The Gloss Interdit Ultra-Shiny Color Plumping Effect in ‘elegant pearl’ is a color that is out of this world; the silver shade possesses an intense, liquidy-silver shade inside of the bottle, but when applied, blends so well that you look less ‘space age chic’ and more ‘runway ready’.  Also worth a mention is the subtle pink shade ‘pearl shine’, found in the Rouge Interdit Shine Lipstick, which is an amazingly easy shade of pink to wear due to its pale hue, but also the packaging of the lipstick is incredible!  It’s most certainly very well-branded, with the ribbon and Givenchy logo hanging below – bravo!

• John Frieda Root Awakening

I pretty much stay in the realm of  haircare products that are for volume or color-treated hair, so at first the new John Frieda Root Awakening shampoo, conditioner, and detangling spray were definitely outside of my comfort zone. For the sake of good beauty journalism I tried them out anyways, and was quite pleased with the results. I was greeted with a sweet mint aroma upon opening the bottle, and upon completion of all three products, my hair appeared to have the same oomph that volumizing shampoos give, with the luster of color-treated hair products. An added bonus: gone were my obnoxious flyaways, without weighing down my baby-thin hair.

• Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick

Although it won’t actually hit shelves until later this summer, I’ve been using Maybelline’s new color sensational lipstick and lipgloss in “Barely There” exclusively.  The rich pigments give me the right dash of color, and unlike a great many lipsticks out there, it actually dose moisturize (read: I have not had any “dry lip” issues whatsoever).  Although I prefer the pale pinks, there are 48 lipstick colors to choose from, in a cool packaging that’s reminiscent of an NYC skyscraper.

• Givenchy Prisme Again! Compact Powder Quartet

Stuck inside at the office all summer? We know the feeling! That’s why this new Givenchy Prisme Again! Compact Powder Quartet in Sun Mango ($43, at Sephora.com) rounds out our list for summer beauty must-haves. If you’re not as pale as me, try the Sun Cinnamon shade, and between the two, I’m pretty sure you’ll love the transparent matte texture to give yourself a touch of all-over sun kissed appeal.

• Avon NailWear Pro Nail Enamel in Venus

It costs only $5 , but does the duty of polish triple its price. That’s right, I put it to a rigorous test — wore it to work for three days, did house cleaning, tugged at my cuticles, and guess what? It still looks like I have a fresh manicure! Amazing- and you can’t really beat this slick gold shade that will shimmer even better against suntanned skin.

• Solerra Sunless Silk, Sunless Tanning Lotion

Sometimes it pays to spend a little more, especially on a product that could go terribly wrong and make it obvious that you didn’t spend a lot on it. FPD feels that way about self-tanners; when you’ve found the perfect one,  you should stick to it, even if it means you need to scrounge elsewhere.  We’ve tested and approve of the ($24.99, Drugstore.com)
