Transitioning to Spring

Did we just get an inkling of an indication that spring may actually be dead set on arriving soon? As the slushy streets give way to a more watered down iteration, Puffy coats can be stashed, at least for the moment, and give way to more shapely outwear and adventurous footwear. For me, it’s all about my fitted, shrunken moto jacket, coupled with these awesome fur peep-toe booties, which are certainly a bit of an oxymoron (fur, sandals, wintertime…) but so utterly fantastic and fabulous, nonetheless. From the ankles up, I certainly look like I’m on my way to a day at the office, but one glance at these shoes prove that I’m actually enroute to a more extraordinary destination…

I’m Bahamas-bound at the end of the week, and can’t wait to feel the sun glaring down on me while my freshly pedicured toes wiggle freely with excitement! Don’t worry: plenty of SPF 50 and “pale girl essentials” like a wide brimmed hat and SPF clothing will be in tow too! In the meanwhile, I hope you enjoy my urban take on enjoying the 40 degree weather in New York City.

As fashion week (or rather, month) continues to bounce around the globe, I’m constantly scanning the shows for the coolest accessories to present themselves, and so far, haven’t been let down in the least bit! With London fashion week in full swing, I found some wonderful pieces, largely comprised of footwear and handbags that I thought you’d like to see, as well as a few pieces from New York designers who showed their collections after my last runway accessories wrap-up post.

Although the designers and collections are as varied as they come, the unifying theme is a sense of quirkiness and a bit of a bend toward ’90s fashion. As you’ll see from the Burberry Prorsum runway, some of the apparel trends cited last week have delightfully made their way into accessories (fringe- I’m talking to you!). What I Wore, NYFW Fall 2015, Day 3

There are pieces that just pull a look together, despite the weather, and this pleated pattern skirt from Lands’ End is exactly what I’m talking about. Everything was built around the skirt, which was certainly the centerpiece of my day 3 look. I do love wearing black and white, but there’s something about a great hue of navy that really feels like its pushing the fashion element forward in a look.

From Fashion Week, I can report that fur accents, both faux and real, are HUGE, adorning the entirety of sleeves, or just the shoulders or the cuffs, along with huge, stole-like pieces attached to collars, which in this weather, actually feels quite comforting and functional. For beauty, a tucked in half, sleek ponytail has already been seen on the runways multiple times, while faces are kept relatively bare, with an occasional pop of a bright lip.

I’m going to attempt to keep my hair wavy and my lipstick bright for the rest of New York Fashion Week; let’s see how that goes!
