Summer is great; fantastic, I even venture to say; the weather definitely seems to lift the moods of the Manhattanites around me, people leisurely lounge and day drink, and the fashion is just phenomenal. With that being said, when dressing, one must strike the perfect balance between the sweltering, miserable heat down in the subways, and the freezer box bursts of chilly air found in offices, stores, and restaurants.
I create a balance for these drastic temperature changes by: 1) always carrying a roomy bag to stash a lightweight cardigan or scarf and water bottle 2) dress in layers 3) if the temperature is below 75 degrees, pants are extremely helpful.
Remember too, that in the heat, especially as the day goes on, feet have the tendency to swell; I wore these medium width Plush Pillow 3″ wedges for literally 13 hours, and my feet didn’t hate by the day’s end. Comfy shoes are essential, so if you are already feeling some discomfort and tightness in the morning when you put on a pair, chances are it’s going to increase ten-fold, so throw a back up pair in your bag!
Summer allows for more wardrobe playfulness to be on display, and I don’t hesitate to grab bold color and amazing texture; here, I work in the smoothness of wovens via my shoe straps and pants, the softness and dimensionality of cashmere in my sweater and lace in my top, then back again to a texture by glancing at the espadrille wedge heels and beautiful almond and neon yellow geometric weaving at the base of the bag. As an added peek-a-boo color surprise, the Rebecca Minkoff bag includes a blue polka-dot print lining; trĂ©s chic!
