One of my favorite trends that’s been going strong for the last few seasons is ombré. Ombré comes from a French word meaning shaded or shadow, and refers to a graduated color scheme where color fades from dark to light (or the other way around). We’ve seen an ombré effect applied to hair, nail polish and fashion. There are tons of great ombré pieces in stores right now and at every price — here are a few that are just $20 or less– head to CollegeCandy.com to check out the rest!

When it’s hot and sticky out, no one wants to wear more than the bare minimum when it comes to clothing and it seems as though the free-flowing braless trend is on the rise this summer. Want to ditch the tight, pinching, underwire contraption that’s ruled your life ever since puberty and let the girls breathe for a day? Just be sure to stick to these tips and you should be just fine.

1) Don’t Bend Over

Dropped a tissue on the ground at the train station or something? Leave it. Someone (whether it’s come creep with a camera phone or some girl your age mumbling “oh my god, wear a bra” under her breath) will notice.

2) DON’T Wear a White Shirt

Darker colors will cover up better than pastels, but wearing any color is better than wearing white… especially if there’s a 50% chance of rain.

I used to hate being pale. I desperately envied the girls who came back from spring break with perfect, even tans. My skin burns incredibly easily, so unless I cake on bottles and bottles of sunscreen, I end up the color of a boiled lobster. I mean really, really red. Fire engine, ripe tomato red. Eventually, my sunburns fade into tans, but that takes weeks, and my “tan” is pretty pale by most people’s standards.

After years of lamenting my pasty state, I finally realized: I’m never going to be tan! My skin has always been and will always be pale. Baby, I was born this way.

Here are the reasons why I don’t tan:

Skin cancer. Yes, this one is obvious.

One of my favorite stores to shop for cute clothes is Kohl’s. One reason I love it so much is because it’s always been there for me. So many times I’ve needed something last minute, like a pair of slacks for a job interview or the perfect pair of shoes for an outfit, and I can find the perfect solution almost instantly at Kohl’s, while other stores didn’t have anything. On top of all that, I love that mostly everything is pretty affordable — especially when there’s a great sale (and there’s almost always some kind of sale going on). Check out these great picks from Kohl’s for under $20!
When it comes to my wardrobe, I’m all about functionalism. I want each of my pieces to work in multiple outfits so I get the most bang for my buck! That being said, I do know how hard it is to come up with new outfits, especially when you’re juggling school, your friends, your significant other and the entire world on your shoulders. So let me ease your load a bit. Every week, I’m going to pick a new item and show you how versatile it can really be, taking you from a day on the quad to a night on the town. Let the shopping begin!

The other day I was browsing the Topshop website and came across a dainty little number with so much potential. The Orange Cutaway Halter Dress (yeah, real original name, Topshop), is, like you guessed, an orange, halter-style dress made of flowy chiffon. Besides the knockout color, this dress also features a stunning cutout in the chest area, giving it a sexy ’70s feel and a very thin break in the fabric on the back, which will be evident when you’re moving around. Bottom line: The dress is hot, but leaves something to the imagination!

Click through to CollegeCandy.com to find out how to best style this adorable orange dress!

The sun is shining. The birds are chirping. And I’m finally able to put the big winter coat away. It’s time for iced caramel macchiatos and driving with the windows open and the music blasting. It’s time for spring.

Well…almost.

For me it won’t quite be spring until I’ve done my spring shopping. And I plan to do a lot of spring shopping. Bright colors. Neutral shoes. 70s inspired shirts. Lady like pieces. Long skirts. So much to choose from. And so little cash. Sigh. I guess I’ll have to stick with my top five. These are the spring trends I just can’t live without. And you shouldn’t either.

Wide Leg Jeans.

I resisted this trend. I resisted this trend a lot. Because as much as these jeans are supposed to flatter every body type, and as much as these jeans are supposed to make your legs longer, and as much as everyone wants to embrace these jeans with open arms, I was worried they’d look dated next to my favorite pair of skinnies. But two weeks ago I caved and bought a pair. I tucked a white button down into them and paired them with some wedges and a really cute belt. And you know what? It looked really great. I may just have a new favorite jean.

Check out our favorite wide leg jeans here

Chunky Wedges.

Being all of five foot nothing I’m a girl who likes her heels. But I like them even more when they’re a chunky wedge with wooden or rope woven bottoms, and lots of crisscross straps. I like them in leather and in cloth. In bright color and neutral shades. I like them with skinny jeans and wide leg trousers and longs skirts and short dresses. I like them with pretty much anything, actually. And this spring wedges will be my go-to shoe. That’s for sure.

This year, it looks especially trendy when paired with the seventies-inspired trends seen on the runways. Crochet gives a boho, hippie vibe that’s perfect for the laid-back days of summer.

Along with bold, bright bags and loose-fitting tops, tribal-themed accessories and clothing, particularly Aztec-inspired items, are going to be everywhere this spring. Personally, I’m a big fan of this trend in jewelry – the bright colors and interesting patterns and shapes create bold statement pieces that are as fun to wear as they are to look at.

These styles look particularly great with the bright hues and breezy shapes of summer clothing, but you might want to think about starting to incorporate some pieces now. Many stores are already carrying great tribal-themed jewelry, and it’s just the pick-me-up our wardrobes need as we suffer through another 6 weeks of the dull grays and blacks of winter-wear. Even more, you can get a lot of it for less than $20, like all the pieces shown here!

From our friends at College Candy:

When you go out, you need to be able to carry around all your stuff–money/cards and I.D., keys, phone, camera, lipgloss, etc.–but you don’t want to be weighed down by your usual purse. Which is why a clutch or wristlet is an absolute necessity for every college girl: they’re small enough that they won’t get in your way while you’re trying to navigate a crowded bar, but big enough to hold the essentials.

These options are all cute, big enough to hold everything you need, and cost $20 or less!

The leopard print on this one is a fun (and super fashionable) alternative to a solid-colored purse. It’s practically a steal at only $13.98! Plus, the chain strap is removable, giving you options for different looks!

This bag is perfect for a fancy event or any special night out. With all that bling, it’s the only accessory you need! And don’t be fooled: the pretty beading on this clutch only make it look expensive. It’s only $18.80!

This clutch is simple enough to be dressed up or down, and the separate zippered compartments are perfect for separating the important stuff (i.e. your money and cards) from everything else (i.e. the band-aids you brought for the walk home). Plus, the color is just gorgeous.

This clutch’s simple design makes it perfect for night or day, and it’s just another example of why quilted bags are are always in style! It comes in five different colors, and at only $15.90, you might think about buying a few!

I am a firm believer in all things sparkly when it comes to nighttime clothing and accessories. This bag will get you lots of attention and compliments!

Is it just me or is there another “revolutionary” new makeup product introduced every freaking day?! Just walking into Ulta or Sephora (or even Walgreens!) sends many chicas into fits of hysteria, reaching for the nearest brown bag to regulate their breathing. It’s all so overwhelming.

So how can you know which product – among the sea of thousands – is the best? Which does what you need it to do? Which ones are worth the extra money? Let me help. I don’t know every beauty product out there, but I’ve tested a lot of them and I’ll let you know which are worth the money and which are not.

(Disclaimer: This product was provided to me for review purposes)

What it is: Tarte Park Ave Princess Matte Waterproof Bronzer

Why this should be in your bag: Like I’ve said before, bronzer is a total pale-face lifesaver. A swipe of bronzer can literally make you go from dull to glowing. I myself use bronzer in my makeup routine every day of the year and enjoy testing out different formulas. Tarte (along with a few others) have developed waterproof bronzers, designed for use on the beach and at the pool, but also for those humid summer days. I’ve definitely experienced makeup meltdown, despite the use of heavy-duty primer, so I would find a waterproof bronzer insanely useful.

How to use it: For a glowy beach-friendly look, you’re going to want to round up a bunch of other waterproof makeup, like eyeliner and mascara. You may also want to increase the staying power of your concealer by using an eyeshadow primer prior to application. Use the classic “E-3″ application technique with the Tarte Park Ave Princess Matte Waterproof Bronzer: get some powder on your brush (I love using a kabuki brush), and swipe in it on your face making an “E” on one side and a “3″ on the other. This way, you hit the spots that the sun naturally does. I also swipe a bit on my nose!

(Left: heavy swatch. Right: after water.)

CC Rating: A-

Take a look at the swatches; this bronzer is definitely “waterproof” to a degree. Swatch #1 is the bronzer after heavily applied on my hand and #2 is once I lightly brushed water over it. You’ll notice that its blended out a bit, but the pigmentation is still mainly in place. I’d say this stuff would hold up in humid weather or through some water sports, but as for full-on submersion, I’m not so sure.

However, as a regular matte bronzer, I really enjoy this stuff. It’s totally comparable to Hoola, with great pigmentation. The added bonus of the “waterproof”-ness is great and probably makes this a better pick for the humid summer heat. Tarte has also re-done their products, which are now very natural. Most products, like this one, are formulated without parabens and other nasty chemicals.

I’ll be keeping this one around for a while and when it comes time to buy a new bronzer, it may just jump to the top of my list.
