With all of the fashion icons at New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2012, Barbie truly sparkled…in pink. After admiring coveted new looks on the runways, we ended the night perfectly by revisiting our youthful pasts with an all-time favorite doll, Barbie. At Lincoln Center’s David Rubenstein Atrium, the unveiling of this celebrated fashion closet took us through decades past.
Attendees were given the opportunity to play with fashion behind bright pink doors. Virtual computer screens enabled everyone to doll-ify their own look by stepping into the closet and virtually changing your clothes. Meanwhile, models posted within the dream house transformed to the Original Barbie Doll (remember that black and white striped swimsuit!?) of 1959, the Black Barbie Doll of 1980, the Barbie and the Rockers Doll of 1986, the CEO Barbie Doll of 1985, the 50th Anniversary Doll of 2009 and the Barbie Fashionistas Cutie Doll of 2010. I almost forgot to mention the boundless wall of 360 pairs of pink stilettos!
Albright’s Fashion Library loaned all of the fabulous “real life” Barbie ensembles. For example: The 1980 Black Barbie donned an Alexander McQueen jewel-collared red wrap jersey dress. Barbie Fashionistas Cutie rocked a CD Greene pink crystal cube halter dress and Alexis Bittar pink lucite bangles.
