[Ready for a night out in Nassau.]
Packing always produces a lot of self-induced anxiety, as the control freak in me refuses to allow a bag to be checked (even if it’s free), and the weakling in me won’t allow my carry on to get too heavy. My travel routine has condensed what I bring by way of electronics (use the phone as the camera and book storing device), but I’ve also been better about making sure I have just the right amount of versatile garments.
My most recent travels to the Bahamas with my best friend Jamie anticipated a few formal nights mixed with very casual, beachy days, and thus I coordinated practically everything to be interchangeable. As wellness is integral to our lifestyles and is part of our hotel, The Island House‘s mantra, we also needed to ensure that we had proper attire for the gym and/or fitness studio. The three vacation essential looks are the day-to-evening look, the athleisure-to-actual-workout look, and the poolside look.
Here’s a few of the ways that I did it:

Feeling confident, supported, comfortable, and stylish is essential to a solid work out free of distractions, no matter if you’re into CrossFit or restorative yoga. I really have Athleta to thank for keeping me motivated while looking and feeling great in my work outs, which have taken quite an upswing in frequency in the past few months. Although yoga is my exercise of choice, I do like switching it up, which means versatility in dressing the part for the occasional swim, cycle, dance, or short burst running or circuit work out is of the essence.
For summer 2016, the brand once again delivers a perfect lineup of pieces designated for each activity, with style at the forefront, yet by no means trumping comfort and functionality. Expect a solid array of gorgeous yoga-oriented tops, ultra hip cropped swim tanks, perforated work out pants found in the brand’s signature breathable, “unstinkable” fabrics, and ever-fashionable, capsule collection of Derek Lam 10C Athleta. Pieces considered to represent athleisure are ever-present, meaning you will have less outfit changes in your day, making getting a quick sweat session in way more feasible, plus opening up the opportunity for more “out and about” occasions to wear your favorite Athleta garments!

In New York City, when your body functions basically as a car, using your own two feet to largely get you around, weaving in and out of human traffic and dodging any other obstacles in the way, carrying multiple bags is more of a hazard and less of a convenience. Especially on the subway when, at any point in time, you may be pressed against a minimum of four other humans, consolidating your stuff into one generously-sized bag is ideal.
In this week of extra chaos in the rush right before Christmas, I’ve been using the Dooney & Burke Newbury Suede Sloan Hobo bag in Brown, which neatly organizes and keeps secure my essentials, thanks to the its inside pockets, key hook, and zipper closure while channeling a slightly retro, ’70s vibe. There’s also plenty of room for a few extras, such as my workout clothes, a water bottle, and even space left over to conceal a small gift.
I can’t really predict what the new year may have in store for me or what to expect in 2016, but I do know that I can rely on this bag to contain whatever I need to be prepared for it!

Athleta‘s roundup of fabulous gear for spring is both high impact and athleisure oriented, working a color palette of sherbet-y pastels alongside vibrant flora and fauna prints and gradient stripes. The Derek Lam 10C Athleta collection also returns for another season, heavy on the blue, black, and navy color combinations, making it perfect for the moments when you will be found outside of the gym or fitness studio. Swimwear is of course present and caters to a variety of aquatic activities and temperatures with swim tights, rash guards, and midi bikini tops at the forefront of function and style.
