Well folks, the warm months here on the east coast are about in the bag. But aren’t you just hoping for an Indian Summer? I know I sure am; I love the coziness of a soft, new sweater for fall, accompanied with a pair of new suede boots and jeans, but summer… I just can’t quite you. Fashion Pulse Hubby and I made a promise to each other at the beginning of the season, that we would make our way to the beach this summer no less than six times.
Being as little as 45 minutes from the shore (traffic permitting), it was do-able; we just had to 1)actually be around in NYC on the weekend and 2)be able to push weekly tasks and chores aside to enjoy a few hours in the sunshine. Guess what? We did it! And I have the freckles to prove it (well, not too many; I try to stay as protected as possible from the sun).
I took up SUP and SUP yoga this summer (shout out to A-Team Paddleboarding!), so some beach days involved a bit of a work out first. On other days we’d head to the ocean and then go out immediately afterwards, so having minimal, but versatile garments was key. My most important elements to make the transition to evening involve a great coverup dress, summery wedges, small bag, and a stylish yet functional hat. I picked up this terry cloth dress at the beginning of the season, and loved it more and more, with each wear. Isn’t that great when it happens?

My most recent travels to the Bahamas with my best friend Jamie anticipated a few formal nights mixed with very casual, beachy days, and thus I coordinated practically everything to be interchangeable. As wellness is integral to our lifestyles and is part of our hotel, The Island House‘s mantra, we also needed to ensure that we had proper attire for the gym and/or fitness studio. The three vacation essential looks are the day-to-evening look, the athleisure-to-actual-workout look, and the poolside look.
Here’s a few of the ways that I did it:

Wearing all black can make you blend in, especially amongst a see of fashionable show-goers during New York Fashion Week unless…you mind the small details! Texture, a pop of color, interesting details, complimentary silhouettes, and generally looking put-together with careful consideration and thought give all black that extra oomph that you may be looking for. Also, I’m comfortable. No really, I’m not wearing a single item that doesn’t feel great. Plus, you’ve got to love that awesome movement of the fringe skirt, peeking out from under my long jacket as I walk or the wind blows. Click through below for all of the looks as well as links to what I’m wearing.
