What do you get when 50 of today’s top artists are given creative freedom and innovative technology to aid their gift? Polaroid poised this question when they provided 50 Gl10 Instant Mobile Printers, a device said to be like a “portable photo booth in the palm of your hand,” to 50 artists (ranging from James Franco to Cynthia Rowley and Tory Burch) to create 50 unique works of art. The iconic brand is hosting the Made in Polaroid Art Exhibit, open to the public at Milk Studios from September 7th-13th and a charity auction on September 14th at Philips de Pury on Park Ave. All proceeds from the auction will benefit Free Arts NYC, a non-profit organization that “provides arts and mentoring programs to under-served children.” Celebrities, fashion designers, photographers and musicians alike are united in their “go anywhere, print anywhere, and share” philosophy. For further information and a sneak peek at some of the art, visit www.polaroid.com and www.philipsdepury.com.

Technology and art, the two may seem like opposite ends of the creative spectrum, but they really aren’t so far apart form each other, especially where Andy Warhol is concerned! The giant of 20th-century art was actually a gadget fiend, and consistently championed the involvement of technology in the art world.
So it makes total sense that Incase would put some of his most iconic artwork on their innovative designs. Choose from several case and sleeve designs for your iPad, iPhone, and laptop for the ultimate merger of modernity. The hard part will be choosing a print; the Velvet Underground and Nico album cover, the anti-camouflage Camouflage, the timeless Dollar Signs…which one(s)? Take a page out of Warhol’s book — “We live in a world where we do not notice change; therefore what does change only enhances itself a little more each day.” It’s the perfect argument to get them all!

[PR designers Emilio Sosa, Seth Aaron Henderson and Jay Nicolas Sario pose with Vivienne Tam and the new digital clutch]
Mingling with this season’s Project Runway contestants and noted fashion designer, Vivienne Tam, mimosas were raised to salute Hewlett Packard‘s new collaboration with the famed show. New technology enables designers to create digital prints that can then be translated onto fabric and was used in a recent episode’s design challenge. Remaining competitor, Emilio Sosa, gravitates towards “free form” which he attributes to growing up in the Bronx where it was “all about graffitti.” Along with their TouchSmart Notebook, a computerized sketchbook, HP predicts the digital tool will help to redefine the fashion, amplifying the design process and allowing designers to create their own fabrics. Vivienne Tam agreed, dubbing it a new frontier in the industry and also promoted her very cool butterfly design on HP’s new digital clutch during the event. The Vivienne Tam/HP handheld computer, which resembles a purse, also doubles as an accessory with a dual function, and is available for pre-order this month.

Both inside and outside, Windows 7 can be found at the flagship Saks Fifth Avenue this holiday season? What exactly am I talking about? I’ll explain — in several areas throughout the store, including the shoe floor, Windows 7 has created lounges to surf the web and watch TV, as well as send holiday tweets via the Windows 7 operating system that are then displayed in the store windows of Saks! It’s a new concept, and true way to make the windows interactive, as well as inclusive of the customers!
Yuli Ziv of MyItThings and I had the opportunity to preview the lounge and learn more about the new collaboration, as well as get a sneak peak at the windows before they opened to the public! For the unveiling, Broadway singing star Kristin Chenoweth performed, and Steve Sadove, CEO & chairman of Saks, as well as Kathleen Hall, general manager of Windows 7 marketing and Microsoft were on hand for the event. If you’re interest is piqued, you can participate virtually via twitter, by tweeting your holiday wishes via twitter with the hashtag, “#holidaywindows”.
