Sometimes carrying around a cardigan can be a bit cumbersome, and in the warmer months, light and filmy layers are just so welcoming! I’ve been having quite a love affair lately with scarves, and as my collection has been expanding, so has the way that I’ve worn them, evolving from an infinity-like style to more specialized knots and different drapes (I’m still no pro at tying a scarf; check out the book How to Tie a Scarf for some extra tips and tricks).
This summer, you will most likely find me with one loosely rung along the strap of my handbag, inside of it, or draped on my person. Have you got a things for scarves too? Here are six of my favorites for the summer, whose prints and fabrics invoke the easy breezy call of the beach, even if you are stuck inside your chilly air-conditioned office.

Espadrilles have come and gone in popularity for decades, and this summer, the “it” version is as simple as it gets. Flat as they come, these paired-down iterations usually sport a cap toe, braided side detailing, canvas upper, and rubber sole. Easy for packing and wearing on a beach vacation or while running errands, it’s no wonder that this style has been eternally popular! Plus, unisex styles such as this tend to prove the test of time, being extra versatile and approachable for both men and women.
Although canvas is preferred, I’ve seen some great-looking espadrilles in metallic, studded, featuring colorful woven designs, and even leather. You can get a pair ranging anywhere from $15-$800, as even Chanel has its own version of the classic style. See the image above, and links and additional info below for my top picks.

It’s no secret that I’m passionate about cat eye sunglasses; I feel that the style is universally flattering, and the classic silhouette presents a certain movie star quality that’s hard to deny. As the shape has picked up steam, there are more and more options to suit every fancy and style whim, to abstract geometric shapes to vibrant shades, exaggerated points, and of course, animal print and embellished iterations. You can always choose a black or tortoise shell pair, but isn’t it more fun to have a few more options in the mix?
If you’re nervous to invest in a pair that protrudes with personality, go for a cheaper option, but all the same, check to ensure it still has UVA/UVB protection to guard your peepers from those bright rays!

As an accessories fiend and lover of vintage items, I revel in stumbling upon vintage jewelry and accessories from the past that were so popular at one period of time, and now, are virtually unheard of. With the styling of a sweater or jacket perched on the shoulders, however, I can’t help but get a feeling that the cardigan/sweater clip may be making a comeback. The look was something that I vaguely remember my grandmother wearing, and like anything goes, with the right balance of silhouettes, using a sweater clip could be a cool accessory, destined to certainly be a conversation starter!
Emma Thompson as author P.L. Travers wore one in Saving Mr. Banks, in which she looked elegant and sophisticated through and through, which inspired me to seek a some clips of my own.
