Fashion Pulse Flash

It’s Friday, and I’m TIRED. And it’s all because I’ve spent all week running around like a mad woman, checking out holiday and spring collections, so that I can tell you all about them. I also tested a ton of products, and are bringing you my favorites of the week here, in today’s Fashion Pulse Flash edition.

Stay tuned for a big roundup of holiday collections, gift-giving ideas, and more on the blog next week, and in the meanwhile, please check out my feature/personal memoir about growing up freckly, on The Today Show‘s website (spoiler alert: lots of cute pics of my younger self will be found there!).

maybelline lip palette
Maybelline’s limited edition Irresistible Lip Gloss Palette ($11.99) is pretty AMAZING. The eight shades come in a lovely compact, and ranges from that nude lip look to a more prominent pout. I’m not afraid to veer on the bright side, so the last two shades are certainly my favorite. You can pick one up during the month of November at select mass market retailers Ulta, nationwide.

essie luxe effects polish

Could it get any more holiday than these? I didn’t think so either! The latest essie luxeffects collection takes a strong nod from fringe seen on the runways, and is hence dubbed “fringe luxeffects” for its movement and dramatic flare. The four shades move through metallic and iridescent iterations, mixing metals and colors together for a unique color burst. They are (pictured): Tassel Shaker (copper and bronze), Fashion Flares (maroon glitter), Fringe Factor (gunmetal and pink), and Frilling Me Softly (platinum and cobalt). As always, they retail for $8.50, available this month (November) at, fine salons, and beauty destinations nationwide.

lump of coal soap bare soaps
I love, love, love natural, handmade soaps, and the only way that it gets any better than that is 1) if they are super affordable, and 2) if they do good beyond just cleaning your body. I’m so glad that my friend Nadia Murdock introduced me to b.a.r.e. soaps, and I tested out a trio of holiday-centric scents (pictured above; they go on sale November 14th). I do have to say that Lump of Coal is a crowd pleaser, but what could be great than this: 20% of proceeds from purchases is invested in vaccines, vitamins, soap, and other needs in Kaberamaido, Uganda? Plus, the packaging is actually plantable paper, which can bloom into wildflowers. I’m really enjoying these soaps, which can make a nice gift this holiday season for your hostess (priced from $6.49 each).

Fashion Pulse Flash

It’s a short week for me, as I’m off today for High Point Market in North Carlina for year number two to check out the coolest furnishings and home décor for the upcoming season (see previous coverage here). Before I go, I want to leave you with a few more amazing Fashion Pulse Flash items that I’ve been testing out over the past few weeks:
orla kiely fragrances
[At home on my TV stand, I’ve been enjoying the Orla Kiely Basil & Mint diffuser]

There are certain items for the home that may not be absolute necessities, but set the mood, the tone, the ambiance, in a delightful, relaxing way. What I’m thinking about in particular is home fragrance, i.e. scented candles and diffusers, as I have been enjoying those from Ted Baker Residence and Orla Kiely9 lately, a new collection available both in-store and online at Nordstrom this fall.

The  beautifully branded designs of the packaging elevates the full sensory experience, while the scents come in unique combinations such as Sicilian Lemon, Earl Grey, Citrus Rind, Fig Tree, Basil and Mint (Orla Kiely; $48 for the diffusers, $38 for the candles), and Miami (star apple and passion fruit), Sydney (ocean air and sea salt), and New York (cedarwood and vanilla; Ted Baker Residence; $58 for the diffusers, $47 for the candles). The diffusers share scent for up to two months, while the candles have the potential to burn for up to 50 hours.  I may refill, or recycle the gorgeous glass Orla Kiely bottle as a bud vase afterward, further extending its purpose into the home realm.

Look for these items after November 15th; the Orla Kiely home fragrance items will be exclusively online.

Estee Lauder_Liquid Lip Potion

It’s hard to describe the sensation and process of using the new Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Liquid Lip Potion, as it’s one of the strangest, coolest, products that I’ve ever tested! The best way I can think to share the most important info about it is that it takes the best of lipstick, lip balm, and lip gloss, and incorporates it into one product. It offers the application of a lip gloss, dries down to the texture and matte qualities of a long wear lipstick (up to eight hours), while moisturizing like a balm (it includes jojoba, avocado, and sunflower oils). The special formula includes the Advanced True Vision Technology to create the pigmented color, definition and volume, while the Time Release Encapsulated Moisture Complex with Hyaluronic Acid secures the moisture and hydration so that you never have to worry about drying your lips out because of a lipstick.

Sounds pretty good right? It’s actually quite neat to experience it happening, with 16 great colors to choose from, ranging from nude to plum hues. Plus, the packaging is ultra sleek, with a reveal panel to see the actual color within.  The Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Liquid Lip Potion is currently available for $30 each at Estée Lauder counters nationwide and at

block island organics

I’ve spent the past few weeks putting the Block Island Organics Organic Purifying Facial Cleanser ($21.99) to the test, and good news: it passed! With delicate, sensitive skin that errs on the dry side, I always figure that my skin is truly a good test for how gentle yet effective a product can be. This formula was successful at easily removing makeup and taking off “the day” while being as light as can be. Honestly, I barely felt it, as it easily dissolved and broke apart those unwanted “impurities” on my skin’s surface. About the product: this cleanser includes the organic ingredients of rosehip, chamomile, sunflower, avocado, olive, with vitamins C and E to nourish and protect your skin.
Do you dig Block Island Organics too? Use this special code that the brand generated for FPD readers, “julian” for  20% off at its site until October 23rd. (can’t combine it with other codes).

Full Disclosure: The items mentioned in this post were given to Fashion Pulse Daily for editorial consideration.
