Every week, I’m going to strive to featture an eco-conscious brand, designer, product, and the like; the more we know about the choices out there, the better decisions we can make to protect and preserve our world!
Go Green Go is a 10-piece collection of tanks, pants, and tunic dresses, all created from natural cottons, lined in organic silk by Phillip Lim. In order to reduce his company’s carbon footprint, Lim emphasizes hand versus machine detailing, washing with tennis balls for a worn look versus using dyes, and other measures. Inspired by a sobering documentary he had seen about polar bears and the loss of their natural resources in the North Pole, he was inspired to start a line of products that would be gentler on the earth and its many precious and irreplaceable resources. Lim also designed a $20 canvas grocery bag that reads “Smile, you have just reduced your carbon footprint.” Remarkably, all of the proceeds go directly to Al Gore’s Climate Project. Can you immagine the impact if every designer started a line that was reflective upon the environment? Go Green Go can currently be found at Barneys.

Add a dash of panache to the little black dress with the inclusion of an exposed zipper. The Zip Front Halter Party Dress, $22.80 is the perfect culmination of high-street style meets chic evening attire; in the colder months, pair it with some colorful textured leggings for a wintery, funkified look. Play with lines by rocking the Odette Cage Bootie, $28.80, which can also have multi-seasonal appeal.

A special thanks goes out to DEX New York for hosting the event and providing us with amazing hair and makeup! I’d like to personally thank Naomi Porto for giving my hair the right amount of volume and texture, and Altjana Banja for my lovely face and confirming that I can wear 2 shades of blue eyeshadow and look amazing. Also thanks to Thomas Cantley for the beautiful photos. Below is a sampling of “before” and “after” photos from the shoot — enjoy!

Here’s me (Julia) in my favorite boyfriend jeans and beater, transformed into a lovely mademoiselle in a vintage Sonia Rykiel floral dress.
